On 24 September 2003 we succeeded to get an exclusive interview for our Peña Atlética Centuria Germana with the Spanish young national player Fernando Torres. The nineteen-year old forward of Atlético de Madrid is one of the most talented and most demand players of the Primera División. Fernando, it is a big honour for us to dos interview with you and we woulld like to thank you in advance in name of our Peña Atlética Centuria Germana. FT: Well, to be a Rojiblanco or to play in red and white is something different than at another club. The large tradition of this club, as well as the many characteristics makes Atlético something special. PACG: Because of the fans or what? FT: Yes, the fans and their relationship to the club, the players. Even if Atlético plays in the Segunda, they come out to support us, this shows that this association has something unique, which nobody can't explain. PACG: Like the Peñas, in Spain and abroad ...? FT: Exactly. It is an association which inspires many people. The 3rd in Spain and also from foreign view attracts many more people, and even they create Peñas in these countries. When we descended all remained faithful and even engaged themselves even more.  FT: Hopefully the league (Primera División) this season, or the Copa del Rey. The aim: To win a title, in order to be able to participate in Europe again. PACG: Which step would you do next for your career? FT: I would like to win many titles with this club, also with the national team. There I would like to play as often as possible and try to aqcuire a starting place. PACG: Which chances do you see for your national team at the EM 2004 and do you think that you will be there? FT: Right now it depends on the result of Greece. It would be better if we could end first, but if we end second it will depend on who we meet in the playoffs. If we should meet a stronger team we must fight harder, but if play against a so called smaller team people shouldn't think we will qualify easily. My chances to play depend on this season. If I play well my chances to be in the selection will be bigger.  FT: Everyone is free to think what he wants, but I had already the possibility to leave and I didn´t do it becaue I feel here very well. As long as I feel well here, I will remain. Different would be it, if my situation would change here, but if everything continue like up to now, I will stay very long. PACG: You would not play for Madrid or Barcelona ... FT: To the FC Barcelona it´s something else, but surely not for Real Madrid. Now, if I had to leave, I would like to play in a other country, never against Atleti. PACG: Which player would you like to dress as a Rojiblanco? Do you have perhaps a German favorite? FT: Mmmhhh ... they have great players, they are vice-world champions. I've always liked Ballack when he played for Leverkusen and now Munich. I would welcome him if he moved to Spain and Madrid in particulary, but not to Real Madrid ofcourse (laughs)  FT: Hm ... thus, I had many idol: in former times Van Basten and now Henry. But I had always one with Atlético: Kiko, who I already loved as a child. I always wanted to make plays like he did and play the ball as he did. I even had the luck that I could play with him. PACG: What do you feel, if you the people still call you "El Niño"? FT: I got accustomed to it, Aguilera is already 32 or 33 and he still gets called El Niño too because he also started to play when he was still very young. In the locker room he is still called El Nino so I still have a long time to go to probably ... (laughs) ... but it does not disturb me. PACG: For us German's it's very important that Atlético will play again in the European competitions. Only so more people can start to follow Atlético more in Germany we think. When do you think Atlético will play again in europe and how will Atlético reach this aim? FT: I do believe and not only me. We all want that we obtain the qualification for a European competition in this season so that we are allowed to play next season in the UEFA Cup or the champions League. It is important that we reach Europe again and the name Atléti will pass the Spanish borders again. PACG: UEFA-Cup or Champions League ...? FT: Hopefully. PACG: Intertoto? FT: No, surely not. The aim is to be withing the first six and even better would be the first four. PACG: What would you like to say to the people in Germany? FT: Since I only experienced now that there are fans also there I would like to thank them that they support this club, even if we had bad times lately. And I also would like to say that we try, step for step, to become again the team which we once were. If they remain with us they will be able to experience again a big Atléti.
